Memory Keeper - by K.D. DeFehr

You don’t remember me

despite my being here

every evening

with your favorite tomato soup

so I hover in the doorway

until the nurse introduces us.

Sometimes you scream

and I cry because

you can’t miss me.

Stag at the altar of our life,

no partner to reminisce with,

it’s like it was me all alone all this time

no partner to reminisce with,

stag at the altar of our life.

You can’t miss me

and I cry because

sometimes you scream

until the nurse introduces us.

So I hover in the doorway

with your favorite tomato soup

every evening.

Despite my being here,

you don’t remember me.
